VDB Loi helps clients and partners understand what the Labor Law states during the COVID 19 Pandemic
April 30, 2020VDB Loi hosted a webinar titled “Myanmar Labor Law and the Coronavirus Pandemic”. The webinar was hosted on 3rd April 2020, 1:30 p.m. (Myanmar Time). We had a record breaking attendance of over 150 participants from clients and partner companies.
The government has been releasing some instructions regarding precautions and safety measures to which everybody has to adhere. However, instructions related strictly to workplaces (instructions for factories and workplaces to prevent COVID-19) do not refer to responsibilities and obligations of both employees and employers that have been based on labor laws and adjusted subject to the rapidly changing situation. In order to prevent employees from potential health risks and minimize disturbances to business operations and possible losses, most companies have already implemented business continuity planning. In doing so, many of our clients have faced questions and we attempted to answer those questions.
The topics discussed were issues of quarantine, positive cases within the company, discrimination due to worries, employer liabilities, employees family matters, transportation due to lack of public transport, work from home agreements, salary issues, lockdown issues, temporary office closures and other problems. Mr. Edwin Vanderbruggen (our Senior Partner) and Ms. Anna Makosa (Senior Associate) spoke at the webinar.
