New requirements for Domestic Food Production Certificates Renewals

August 28, 2025

On 13 June 2025, the Food and Drug Administration Department (“FDA”) under the Ministry of Health issued an announcement outlining new requirements relating to the renewal of domestic food production certificates below:

Key Requirements and Updates

Late Payments before Submission of Renewal Applications

As per Directive No. 4/2020, businesses that fail to renew their domestic food production certificate on time must pay the applicable late payments before submitting their renewal application exclusively via the FDA’s Online E-Submission System (www.fda.gov.mm).

Extension of GMP Certificate Validity

As decided in Business Coordination Meeting No. 2/2021, the validity period of certificates for businesses compliant with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) has been extended from 2 years to 3 years.

Removal from Certified List After Lapse

If a GMP certificate lapses for more than one full term (i.e., 3 years) without renewal, the business shall be removed from the list of certified businesses for issuance of recommendation.

No Acceptance of Renewal After Expiry

Renewal applications submitted after the 3-year validity period has expired will not be accepted. In such cases, businesses must apply as a new applicant through the FDA’s Online E-Submission System.

With this announcement, the announcement no. 9/2020 issued on 7 August 2020 and the announcement no. 10/2020 issued on 21 August 2020 are provoked.
